The Craftsmanship
Every print represents a precise coordinate intersection on Earth. By querying open-source
geographic networks (OpenStreetMap), our systems capture the vascular rhythm of human settlements.
Street networks are classified by road type — motorways, primary roads, secondary, tertiary, and
residential — each rendered with distinct line weights and colors.
The resulting map abstracts traffic, buildings, and infrastructure into pure organic geometry.
Water features (rivers, lakes, bays) and green spaces (parks, grasslands) are rendered as
distinct layers. It is a visual print of where we walk, drive, and live.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a map poster?
A map poster is a decorative art print that visualizes a city's street network, waterways, and
parks as abstract geometric art. Cartographia generates map posters from OpenStreetMap data,
rendering road hierarchies, rivers, and green spaces into high-resolution prints suitable for
framing. Each poster is centered on precise geographic coordinates and available in 17+ color
themes.
How are Cartographia map posters generated?
Cartographia map posters are generated programmatically using OpenStreetMap data. The system
queries street network graphs, water features (rivers, lakes, bays), and park/green space data
for a given city coordinate. The data is then rendered using matplotlib with theme-specific
color palettes, gradient fades, and typography. Output is available in PNG (300 DPI), SVG, and
PDF formats.
What cities are available as map posters?
Cartographia currently offers map posters for 26 cities worldwide including New York, Paris,
Tokyo, London, Shanghai, Kyoto, Venice, Amsterdam, Singapore, Dubai, Seattle, San Francisco,
Chicago, Helsinki, Budapest, Sydney, Melbourne, Mumbai, Marrakech, Rome, Barcelona, Moscow,
Washington D.C., and more. Any city with OpenStreetMap coverage can be generated.
What themes are available for map posters?
Cartographia offers 17+ color themes including Classic Noir (black and white), Japanese Ink
(sumi-e aesthetic), Neon Cyberpunk (vibrant pink and cyan), Autumn Gold (warm amber tones),
Ocean Coast (cool blues), Pastel Dream (soft pastels), Architect Blueprint (cyan technical
lines), Copper Patina (aged metallic tones), Emerald Mint, Deep Forest, Gradient Roads, Midnight
Gold, Monochrome Blue, Sunset Peach, Terracotta Warmth, Warm Vintage Beige, and Contrast Zones.
What print quality and formats do map posters support?
Map posters are rendered at 300 DPI resolution in PNG format by default, suitable for giclée
archival pigment printing on 200 gsm museum-grade paper. Default dimensions are 12×16 inches
(30×40 cm). SVG and PDF vector formats are also available for unlimited scaling. Framing options
include Oak Wood, Matte Black, Gallery White, or unframed print-only.
